Woodworking contest to help foster children of Arizona

Woodworkers Source is hosting a contest this fall to celebrate the craft of woodworking while benefiting children in Southwest Human Development’s Foster Care and Adoption programs.

The woodworking contest aims to provide comfort to Arizona children in foster care and adoption programs who overcome challenges in their first years of life. Creators of games, puzzles and other handcrafted pieces created for the Woodworking Contest will have the option to donate their pieces to children who are transitioning into new homes.

Woodworkers Source will match each donated project with a $25 donation to Southwest Human Development’s foster care and adoption services.

Entrants are invited to channel their woodworking passion into a special project that stands out from the crowd. Woodworkers can enter any type of project ranging from toys, boxes, games or any other item fueled by creativity. While projects can be of any type, submissions must not exceed a maximum dimension of 30 inches.

Woodworkers can register online and must submit a contest entry form for their submitted project. Entry is free and each participant who enters a project will receive a $25 store credit to Woodworkers Source. Craftsmen must submit and deliver their project to any Woodworkers Source location by Saturday, Nov. 4, in order to qualify. Out-of-state woodworking enthusiast are encouraged to submit a project by mailing an entry and submission from to the Woodworkers Source Scottsdale location at 3200 N. Hayden Road, Suite 280, Scottsdale, AZ 85251.

The winners of the woodworking contest will be determined by a public vote system and will be on display for public voting at Woodworkers Source from Monday, Nov. 3, through Saturday, Nov. 11. First place winner will receive a $500 credit to Woodworkers Source, second place will receive a $300 credit and third place will receive a $100 credit. Contest applicants are encouraged to flex their creative skills and eye for detail. Applicants are encouraged to invite friends and family to stop by to browse projects and cast their votes.

Final projects will be announced at Awards Night on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.  The public woodworking contest public display and awards night will both be held at the Woodworkers Source Phoenix location, 18115 N. Black Canyon Hwy.

For inspiration, applicants can view a collection of inspirational examples of handcrafted wooden projects and past winners from similar contests hosted by Woodworkers Source. Submissions are more than a toy, but represent symbolism of supporting children who are in foster care and adoption programs.
