Support inclusion this April with Bashas’
Join Bashas’ in celebrating Champions for Inclusion this April! All month long, Bashas’ customers can support three local charities making a difference for people with disabilities – Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center, Special Olympics Arizona and Southwest Human Development, the Easterseals affiliate for central and northern Arizona.
Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC) is an internationally recognized nonprofit that conducts innovative research, provides evidence-based practices, disseminates effective training and builds inclusive communities for individuals with autism and their families. Special Olympics Arizona provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and build bonds with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
Southwest Human Development is Arizona’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to early childhood development. Southwest Human Development serves 140,000 children and their families each year through more than 40 programs and services that focus on preventing problems before they start or, when they already exist, providing opportunities to intervene as early and effectively as possible.
April is also Autism Awareness Month, a nationwide effort to promote autism awareness, inclusion and the highest possible quality of life for all. Autism spectrum disorder is a complex disorder that is typically diagnosed during early childhood through behaviors including, but not limited to, delayed language skills, difficulty making eye contact or holding conversation, planning and reasoning and more. Diagnosis is based on a full analysis of behaviors and severity.
Southwest Human Development’s new Birth to Five Center of Excellence specializes in working with young children with disabilities, including autism, by providing assessment, diagnosis and intervention at a time in their lives when it can make the greatest difference. The Birth to Five Center of Excellence practices DIRFloortime®, an evidence-based intervention that helps parents and caregivers to understand and promote a child’s social-emotional, language and cognitive development. Through play-based interactions and relationships, the child develops relating, communicating and thinking skills to support their full learning potential.
The experts at the have helped kids like Eli and Cooper make great strides in their development:
“At Southwest Human Development, we’re dedicated to supporting the growth and development of children with disabilities,” said Jake Adams, chief development officer of Southwest Human Development. “We’re so grateful for the support of Bashas’ for championing inclusion to benefit Arizona children.”
